Stewart’s Caring Place to host new art exhibition beginning Oct. 25
AKRON, Ohio – Stewart’s Caring Place will host its second art exhibit, “Transformation,” starting Oct. 25.
The exhibit will be on display inside the center’s Healing Arts Gallery through Jan. 13. The exhibit is free and open to the public.
An opening reception for the exhibit will be held Oct. 25 from 5-7 p.m. The event will feature light snacks, refreshments, facility tours and the opportunity to meet the four photographers whose work appears in the exhibit: Charlotte Gintert, David B. Lile, Igor Oliyarnik and Thomas Skala.
Akron-based creative agency Art x Love created the art plan for Stewart’s Caring Place’s new building and curates the exhibitions. The center’s new building opened in 2020 at 3501 Ridge Park Drive in Fairlawn. In addition to the new exhibit, the gallery also features paintings created by Love that are permanent features in the space.
“We believe in the health of art and the power of creative courage,” said Mac Love, co-founder and chief catalyst at Art x Love in a news release. “Akron is blessed with an amazing creative community, and we’re excited to showcase the transformational beauty captured by these outstanding photographers.”
“When people see Charlotte, David, Igor, and Thomas’ work in person, I know they’re going to want to immerse themselves in the world of each photo. Peace and beauty are important waypoints for all healing transformations,” Love said in the release.
About the photographers:
- Charlotte Gintert, a local photographer, focuses her work on scenic and travel photography.
- David B. Lile has worked with digital photography since 2009. His work features urban and rural environments from around the world.
- Originally from Lviv, Ukraine, Igor Oliyarnik’s work includes a mix of nature and urban settings. In his compositions, he adjusts leading lines and color.
- Local photographer Thomas Skala has taken pictures throughout his life. His work captures small things, juxtapositions, unique perspectives and special moments, according to Love.
Dr. Stewart Surloff’s wife, Mimi, created Stewart’s Caring Place in 2004 after witnessing her husband’s cancer journey. Stewart’s Caring Place provides cancer patients, their families and caregivers, with a relaxed and caring environment that offers supportive services and programs, ranging from holistic care and fitness classes to support groups, nutrition consultations, art and music therapy and a wig and beauty room. All services are provided at no charge, according to the organization’s website.
“There is more to cancer than chemotherapy and surgery,” said Executive Director Jeannine Marks in a news release. “As a person who has experienced great loss because of the devastating effects of cancer, my personal mission has always been to fully support individuals and families on their cancer journey and ensure that they are not alone, and that their needs are met.”
