Clerk of Courts donates to nonprofits

DOWNTOWN AKRON — Summit County Clerk of Courts Clerk Sandra Kurt’s recent Jeans Day Program raised funds for Shelter Care Inc., Freedom House for Women and Dreams Academy. Pictured above from left is Kurt presenting a donation to Eva Hartwell, founder and CEO of Freedom House for Women.

Kurt stated she created the program in 2016 to streamline “casual Fridays” and to raise funds for local organizations. The program encourages employees to donate to one, two or all three of the charities chosen for a year in return for a “jeans pass” that allows them to dress casually on Fridays during that year. Shown below are employees during a recent Friday jeans day pass.

Kurt stated a total of $23,000 has been collected for 24 organizations that have included Battered Women’s Shelter, Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank, ACCESS Shelter, Humane Society of Summit County, Stewart’s Caring Place and Project GRAD since the program began. “We are a stronger, healthier community when we help each other in our time of need,” said Kurt.

Shelter Care Inc., established 50 years ago, offers residential care for homeless and at-risk pregnant or parenting teens, long-term residential services for boys not able to return home and short-term emergency residential services for boys and girls experiencing crisis.
