Harrison joined Stewart’s Caring Place’s Board of Directors in 2019. He was previously a staff member at Stewart’s as the Marketing & Public Relations Coordinator and is currently a Senior Program Manager, Client Solutions at Continuum Clinical. Harrison is native of Northeast Ohio, and lives in Macedonia with his wife Monica who is a nurse at Cleveland Clinic. They both enjoy exploring volunteer opportunities throughout the Greater Akron/Cleveland area, being outdoors, and spending time with their daughter Mabel and dog Luna.

Rich is the Akron Office Partner in Charge for Buckingham. His practice is focused on federal, state and local tax compliance and controversies, including successfully representing taxpayers before the Ohio Supreme Court, Ohio Board of Tax Appeals, U.S. Tax Court, and Internal Revenue Service. Rich is a member of the Ohio State, Akron, and American Bar Associations and is an adjunct professor in The University of Akron’s Master of Taxation program. He currently sits on the board of the Boys & Girls Club of Northeast Ohio and is a member of the 2021 Leadership of Akron Class 38.

Mike has been the SVP of Agency Banking since 2018 and manages Westfield Bank’s agency banking activities, spearheading business development with independent agents across the country. He has gained a reputation of being an expert in providing capital to insurance agencies. Mike is a lifelong resident of Wadsworth and is active with the Wadsworth Public Library Foundation and Wadsworth City Schools Business Advisory Council. Mike is a graduate of the University of Akron and resides in Wadsworth with his wife Tiffany and daughters, Sophia and Ella.

Marilyn is a senior portfolio manager with Huntington Private Bank.  She has more than 28 years of experience in wealth management with a primary responsibility of constructing personal trust accounts, agency accounts, IRAs, and non-profits.  She currently has over $290 million in assets under management.  In addition to serving on the Stewart’s Caring Place Board, Marilyn is a board member for Manufacturing Works and a Finance Council member for St. Christopher Catholic Church.  She received her BA from the University of Dayton and an MBA from Baldwin-Wallace University.  Marilyn resides in Rocky River with her husband David and daughter Caroline.

Jonathan “Jack” D’Andrea is an associate in the firm’s Business Restructuring, Creditors’ Rights & Bankruptcy practice group. Jack focuses his practice on representing creditors, debtors, trustees, asset purchasers, and other stakeholders in bankruptcy proceedings (primarily Chapter 11 reorganizations and Chapter 7 liquidations) and insolvency matters. Jack’s experience includes representing clients from a variety of industries in asserting claims, obtaining relief from the automatic stay, prosecuting and defending preferential transfer claims and fraudulent transfer claims, protecting interests in executory contracts, and purchasing distressed assets from bankruptcy estates.

Before entering private practice, Jack clerked for two federal bankruptcy judges. He served as a law clerk to the Honorable Russ Kendig in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Ohio and the Honorable C. Kathryn Preston in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Ohio. During his time with the judiciary, Jack researched, briefed, and drafted orders and opinions in numerous contested matters and adversary proceedings.

Jack received his law degree from the Ohio Northern University Claude W. Pettit College of Law, where he graduated cum laude. In law school, Jack was an executive editor for the Ohio Northern Law Review, a member of the ABA Moot Court Team, and a tutor for first-year Contracts students.

Vince is owner of WAVE Ventures, LLC, a real estate investment company. As active proponents of Stewart’s Caring Place, he and his late wife, Betsy, have actively participated in many aspects of advocating for the organization. When Betsy was diagnosed with cancer in 2017, the entire family learned firsthand how beneficial and essential SCP is, not only personally, but to the entire community. Since Betsy’s passing in August 2019, Vince remains active with SCP. He also serves as Vice State Lead Ambassador for the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN). ACS CAN advocates for improved health care, screening and research legislation at the Federal, State and Local levels. Vince sits on ETC Heid’s School of Musical Arts Board of Trustees as President. Vince resides in Akron and enjoys spending time with his children Amanda and William.

Mimi Surloff, LISW-S, retired from the social work profession in 2015 after 38 years in a variety of child welfare positions. Her last position was that of Coordinator of the Wendy’s Wonderful Kids Program at Caring for Kids. In 2004, 3 years after her husband Stewart lost his 10 month battle with cancer, Mimi helped found Stewart’s Caring Place as a legacy to Stewart. Founded on the belief that there is more to cancer than chemo and radiation, Stewart’s Caring place fulfilled Stewart’s vision to have a non-medical support center for cancer patients and their families to find comfort and free of charge services. Mimi served as SCP’s first board president and is currently an honorary Board Member. Mimi also serves as a committee member and volunteer at SCP. Mimi is the secretary of The Jewish Community Board of Akron as well as a member of the Early Childhood Education committee of the Akron JCC.

Tim serves as Executive Vice President and Partner with SeibertKeck Insurance Partners. He grew up in Avon Lake, OH graduating from Avon Lake High School, ultimately earning a business degree from Miami University (OH). Miami is also where Tim met his wife Julie, now a 3rd grade teacher at Jackson Local Schools. Tim and Julie are the proud parents of Hudson (14) and Harper (8), both future grads of Copley High School. Continuing and strengthening the long history of SeibertKeck’s community involvement, Tim serves as board member with ACCESS, Inc., formerly with Akron Snow Angels and Hats of Hope, and is a member of Leadership Akron Class 38. He makes financial impacts sitting on several development committees. Most important to Tim is teaching his children to do what they can, with what they have, wherever they are. Tim loves flea markets, yard sales, antique stores, and finding treasures along the way!

Dr. Gregory Boone is a dedicated and compassionate surgeon specializing in breast cancer care, with over 35 years of experience. Born and raised in Gallipolis, Ohio, Greg has been happily married to Kim for 44 years. Together, they have two wonderful adult sons, two amazing daughters-in-law, and are proud grandparents to three delightful grandchildren.  Their grandchildren are the great joy of their life.  In his spare time, Greg is passionate about music, travel, and collecting modern first edition books.

A 23-year prostate cancer survivor, Greg has a deep personal understanding of the challenges faced by cancer patients. This experience has profoundly influenced his approach to patient care, emphasizing empathy and support. In addition to his medical practice, Greg is actively involved with Livestrong, an organization dedicated to supporting cancer survivors. Greg aims to provide not only medical care but also emotional support, drawing from his own experiences to connect with and inspire his patients.

John is President of JNB Fine Jewelry, LTD., an online jewelry seller. He graduated from Miami University with a BS in Accounting. John is a GIA (Gemological Institute of America) Graduate Diamond Grader and Accredited Jewelry Professional. Previously, he was the co-owner of Volk’s Jewelry in downtown Cleveland for 25 years. He has 2 adult son’s Brian and Josh (Lindsey) and grandson Elliott (born in 2020).  He and his significant other, Karen Minor, love to spend time with family, enjoy the theater, traveling and cruising. John is honored to be serving a second term on the SCP Board of Trustees.

Shelby is a Kindergarten teacher at The Lippman School, in Akron, where she has been teaching for 11 years. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Miami University and a Master’s Degree in School Counseling from the University of Cincinnati. Shelby resides in Richfield with her husband, son, and daughter. She enjoys traveling, tennis, spending time outdoors, and being with friends and family. Shelby is the daughter of Mimi and Stewart Surloff and is proud to serve on the SCP Board in memory of her late father.

Stacey has been volunteering with Stewart’s Caring Place since its inception and is excited to be on the board of an organization that has given so much back to the community. Stacey grew up in Akron and graduated from Copley High School. She received her undergraduate degree from The University of Michigan and her medical degree from The University of Toledo College of Medicine. Stacey is a Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialist at the Cleveland Clinic and takes care of women with high risk pregnancies. She resides in Cleveland with her husband and three children. She enjoys watching sporting events with her family, traveling, reading and crocheting.

Kim grew up in Illinois but has been an Ohio resident since 1984. She received her Associate of Science degree from Sauk Valley Community College, Dixon, IL in 1981.  She then received her BSN from OSU in 1984. She has been a nurse for 40 years, primarily in the area of oncology.  She has been with Aultman Hospital for 32 years and worked many years in a medical oncology office administering chemotherapy.    She became a Nurse Navigator in Gynecologic Oncology in 2015 and worked in that position for 7 years. She is Oncology certified and currently works as a Care Coordinator for the Gynecologic Oncology Department at The Timken Family Cancer Center at Aultman Hospital.  She served as a board member for Aunt Susie’s Wellness Center in Canton prior to becoming a board member for Stewart’s Caring Place.
She lives just outside of Minerva, Ohio with John, her husband of 37 years. She has one cat as her “child”!

Jeremy is a principal with Rea & Associates. His primary role involves providing accounting, attestation, and tax services to a variety of clients in the manufacturing, healthcare, and real estate industries and non-profit organizations. Professionally, Jeremy is a member of the Ohio Society of CPAs and the American Institute of CPAs. In addition to his contributions to Stewart’s Caring Place he is involved with the Conservancy for Cuyahoga Valley National Park, Christian Business Men’s Connection and Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. Jeremy received his undergraduate and graduate degrees from John Carroll University and resides in Wadsworth with his wife Roxanne, daughter Amarina and son Christian.

Catherine McKinley graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration with Honors from Kent State University.  In 2006, she started Catherine McKinley Photography where she continued to serve the community and is an accomplished award-winning photographer.  Catherine also worked as Director of Operations for Serenity Wellness Salons, where she was instrumental in launching a care program for Summa’s hospice patients.  Catherine is currently employed at Stark State College Akron.  As an Enrollment Representative and Advisor, she is currently involved in Stark State initiatives which work to support underserved students in attaining degrees or certificates on time. Catherine completed Diversity on Board through Leadership Akron and is the President of Diversity on Board, Class 7.  She is serving on the Board for Summit Artspace and serving as a member of the marketing committee for the Cuyahoga Valley Conservancy.

Dr. Dina grew up in the Canton area and graduated from Jackson High School. She started her medical career as a nurse’s aid during summers at Mercy when she was a student at Ohio State. Dina graduated with a B.S. in Biochemistry and then earned her M.D. from The Ohio State University School of Medicine in 1989. She completed her residency in Internal Medicine at the Medical Center of Vermont.

From 1992-1994, Dr. Dina served as ER Director and the first full time ER physician at Gifford Medical Center in Randolph, Vermont. She then completed a fellowship in Hematology and Oncology at Indiana University in Indianapolis. Dr. Dina returned to Canton in 1997 and practiced Hematology/Oncology until 2016 at Tri-County Hematology & Oncology. She served as a managing partner, Vice-president and President. For the past decade she limited her practice to breast and gynecologic cancers. She helped start the Mercy Breast Program and served as medical director of the Breast Center for many years. Dr. Dina also ran the multidisciplinary and breast tumor Boards from 1999 until 2014.

Her commitment to cancer patients did not end with retirement. She has been involved with Mercy’s Service League’s Wine Women & Shoes event. Her retirement dream was to create a cancer wellness center to provide free services to patients in the Canton area. She joined the board of Aunt Susie’s Cancer Wellness Center in 2020, became an office volunteer in 2021, and took over as Executive Director in 2022.  Dr. Dina wants to give back to the community that embraced the local kid that came home to practice medicine and taught her so many valuable lessons about courage and dignity over the years.

Dr. Dina enjoys travelling to her second home in Anguilla where she sponsors the Real Deal, one of the national racing sailboats. She is active in charitable causes on the island supporting education and animal rescue. Dr. Dina is single and lives at Meyer’s Lake with her dog Ziva.

Elizabeth joined the Stewart’s Caring Place Board of Directors in 2025. She has previously been a volunteer for a number of years, serving as the Hope Walk Chair and a Butterfly Gala Committee Chair. She also previously worked as a staff member for SCP. She is currently the Senior Director of Development for Leadership Akron. Elizabeth is a native to the Akron community, growing up in Bath, Ohio. She and her husband moved to Pittsburgh for 10 years and have recently returned to their hometown to raise their daughters, Madison and Charlotte. Her husband is a Senior Project Manager & Engineering Geologist for TranSystems, formerly Gannet Fleming. Elizabeth is a graduate of LDI XXIV of Leadership Pittsburgh and the Inagural 2015 Leadership Akron Women’s Network CLI and most recently participated in the 2024 Insight Akron Cohort. Elizabeth is deeply passionate about community and has spent over 20 years in the non-profit and profit sectors directly serving community needs, most recently as the Community Engagement Manager for First Commonwealth Bank. She is also currently on the board of the Akron Symphony and the National board of the Dollar Energy Fund. Elizabeth and her family enjoy the outdoors and can frequently be found at the Summit Metro Parks and the Cuyahoga Valley National Park.

Angela (Angel) Whorton is a proud Honors graduate of Hampton University earning her B.A. in Psychology and her M.A. in Elementary Education. Following graduation, she traveled the world and began her teaching career in Istanbul, Turkey. After her life-changing global experiences, Angel decided to bring her skill set back home to Akron, Ohio with a transformed perspective on education and an enhanced desire to effect change which led to her appointment as Teacher of the Year, earning her Post Baccalaureate in Special Education, and teaching at the National Inventors Hall of Fame STEM Middle School while developing student activism. Angel joined the inaugural dynamic teaching team at IPromise in 2018 where she is currently the Behavior Coach in the Family Training Center (FTC) where her mission is to break down the school to prison pipeline educational system that is designed to keep kids with “dysregulated” behavioral skills stuck in the “justice” system. Angel’s creative, responsive, and engaging pedagogy becomes a mirror for the students she encounters. She is an active voice in her community and serves on the Board for several organizations. She is also a certified Life Skills Coach with The First Tee of Greater Akron. Angel has emceed the LeBron James Family Foundation Family Reunion at Cedar Point and other associated events in collaboration with the 2K Foundation and Dick’s Sporting Goods Foundation. She has been a featured guest on several local and national media outlets including the Akron Beacon Journal, the Baltimore Sun, the Los Angeles Times, NBC, ABC, and Fox networks as well as the recent IPromise documentary with the focus on bringing healing through perspective education. Angel is a recent triple-negative breast cancer survivor. She is the proud wife of recent COVID-19 survivor, John, and devoted mother of two thriving children–John Ramon, 14, and Kara, 12–and believes in partnerships as a major component to encourage the next generation to build their better futures together.

Stephanie York serves as executive director of the Shaw Jewish Community Center of Akron.  The Shaw JCC is recognized for its quality programming and services in fitness, recreation, sports, and education, for all stages of life.  The JCC’s approximately 60-acre campus houses an early childhood education department, a k-8 private school, a synagogue, JewishAkron, Jewish Family Services, a full kosher kitchen with catering, two pools, tennis and pickleball courts, a racquetball court, a gymnasium, workout facilities, group exercise rooms, an auditorium, and well-equipped locker rooms with spa features, and more.  The JCC membership is predominantly from outside the Jewish community – with 1,400 membership units (individuals or families) and 1,000 active Silver Sneaker participants.

Prior to the JCC, Stephanie was vice president and in-house counsel at Hennes Communications, one of the few firms in the U.S. focused exclusively on crisis communications and crisis management. With over 25 years’ experience in law and communications, Stephanie specialized in crisis and issues communications, outrage management, litigation communications, media relations and social media. 

Prior to joining Hennes Communications, Stephanie served as both assistant director of law and director of communications for the City of Akron.  In these positions, she skillfully controlled communications for civil and criminal legal matters, state and federal investigations, a vast city taxpayer website breach and attempted breaches, city council disputes, community perceptions, mayoral reputation challenges and sudden changes in leadership and administrations.  While working for the government, Stephanie honed her skills in customer service as she managed constituents’ concerns, questions, issues and problems.

Stephanie has served on several prominent local non-profit boards, is a current member of the board of trustees for Stewart’s Caring Place, an Akron Planning Commissioner, and a host of Forum 360, a local PBS show.  You can reach Stephanie at syork@shawjcc.org.
